Marriage Tips...For Life

Based on this comical video, Killer Marriage Tips, the following are Biblical principles to make your marriage come back to life:
  1. Do not finish his or her sentence. James 1:19 says, My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry. Ephesians 4:2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.
  2. Do not agree to spend money and then make your spouse feel guilty. If finances are tight then be honest with your concerns. Jesus says in Matthew 5:37, Simply let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No,' 'No'; anything beyond this comes from the evil one. Ephesians 4:15 Instead, speaking the truth in love,
  3. Do not think of a comeback to your argument as he or she speaks. Proverbs 1:5, let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance- Ephesians 4:29, Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
  4. Do not think that taking care of only your needs will meet hers or his. "Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interest of others.” Philippians 2:3-4.
  5. Do not put your spouse in a time-out or treat her inferior. Philippians 2:3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.
  6. Do not be sarcastic or a mocker. Proverbs 9:12 If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you; if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer.
May God's Word penetrate your soul and bring life to your marriage. God can empower you to make the changes in your attitude and actions. When we change, our spouse will change. It may take time but it happens. My marriage is living proof. God only holds us accountable for our actions, we're not held accountable for our spouse. How can you bring life to your marriage today?
